As Catholics, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Our belief is supported by numerous verses from the Bible. We believe Jesus was sent by God to deliver us and help us gain eternal salvation through Him. In this post, we will review 25 Bible verses about the Son of God.
Who is the Son of God?
Jesus Christ, the Son of God
The Son of God is Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. As Catholics, this is the center of our faith. We believe Jesus was on earth as a man, but is now with God the Father eternally in heaven. Son of God is the identity of who Jesus is. Jesus is both fully God, and fully man. This is a wonder for us to behold. Jesus is both Divine and man.
From the beginning this acknowledgment of Christ’s divine sonship will be the center of the apostolic faith, first professed by Peter as the Church’s foundation. Source: Catechism of the Catholic Church #442
The Beginning
The Gospels Proclaim Christ is the Son of God
At the very beginning of his Gospel, St. Mark the Evangelist provides his readers assurance that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And in St. Luke’s Gospel, the Angel Gabriel tells the Virgin Mary that her son to be born is the Son of God.

2. And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. Luke 1:35
Temptation
The Son of God Was Tempted by the Devil
Jesus gave us an example how to overcome the devil’s temptations: the enticements of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Jesus overcame all of the devil’s temptations in the desert with prayer, with fasting, and with Sacred Scripture.
3. The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.” Matthew 4:3

In St. John’s Gospel, Jesus speaks in His own words that He is the Son of God. This is significant, as Jesus Christ Himself proclaims in the Bible that He is the Son of God.

Passion
The Passion of the Christ, the Son of God
Jesus would not be the Son of God and our Redeemer without His passion, death, and resurrection. If we did not believe Jesus rose from the dead, the good news of the Gospel would be all for nothing. But we believe Jesus rose from the dead. Christ’s resurrection from the dead changes everything. We believe the Son of God came down from heaven to save us. Christ became man so we might become sons of God.

Faith
The Son of God Seeks Our Faith in Him
Jesus asks for us to have faith in Him. Before He performed His miracles in the gospels, Jesus often asked if they believed he could perform the miracle. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus told Peter to have faith in God. Likewise, we should always believe in the Son of God and have faith in Him, both in our lives and in the Church.
